Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive in Casablanca – Marrakech

Welcome to Morocco! Upon your arrival in Casablanca, your driver-guide will meet you at the airport to begin your tour immediately.

The Majesty of Casablanca Start your journey by exploring the main attraction of the city: the Hassan II Mosque. This stunning landmark is an iconic sight with its grand facade and towering 210-meter (690 feet) minaret. Opened in 1993 and located in the heart of Casablanca, its design is an exquisite combination of traditional Islamic architecture and modern Moroccan styles.

Journey to the Red City Say goodbye to the "Wind City" and travel toward the Red City of Marrakech. Your route will take you over vast rolling plains and through a unique Argan tree forest. These trees are native only to this region. Keep an eye out for the famous goats, which can often be seen perched among the tree branches munching on the Argan fruit.

Day 02 Exploring the Old Medina of Marrakech

A Journey Through the Souks Embark on a guided tour with a local expert to explore the heart of the "Red City." Your journey begins at the vibrant Jemaa el-Fna Square, leading you into the labyrinthine souks. You will discover Souk Smata, famous for traditional Moroccan slippers (babouches), and Souk Haddadine, where you can find intricate silver, brass, and other hand-forged blacksmith products.

Palaces and Icons Your guide will then direct you to the 19th-century Bahia Palace. Walk through the beautiful courtyard gardens and take in the stunning interiors, which feature detailed woodwork and ornate ceilings. Next, you will visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest and most iconic mosque in the city.

The Tranquility of Majorelle After your medina tour, spend the afternoon exploring the Majorelle Garden. These gardens are world-renowned for the vibrant blue and yellow residence of French artist Jacques Majorelle, designed by architect Paul Sinoir. With more than 300 different varieties of plants and flowers from various continents, the gardens offer a picturesque and peaceful way to conclude your day.

Day 03 Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Benhaddou - Dades Valley

Crossing the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka Start your journey from the bustling city of Marrakech and drive south toward Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara. You will wind over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in North Africa, reaching an elevation of 2,260 meters (7,413 ft). Enjoy the sweeping views of the valleys below as you pass through several traditional Berber villages nestled in the mountainside.

The Ancient Fortress of Aït Benhaddou Next, explore Aït Benhaddou, an ancient fortified city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once a major trading post on the caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, this 11th-century ksar is made up of iconic mud-brick dwellings. Its timeless beauty has made it a famous filming location for Hollywood blockbusters such as Gladiator and The Mummy.

Ouarzazate: The Gateway to the Desert Continue east to Ouarzazate, the central hub for filmmaking in Morocco. The city is home to Atlas Studios, the largest in the country, and has hosted legendary productions like Lawrence of Arabia and Babel.

The Valley of the Roses to Boumalne Dades As you make your way toward Boumalne Dades along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, you will pass through numerous small towns where traditional farming methods are still in use. You will drive through the fragrant Kelâat M'Gouna, known as the "Valley of the Roses" for its production of rosewater and rose oil. This town also hosts the famous annual Rose Festival. One hour later, you will reach your destination in Boumalne Dades.

Day 04  Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga

The Verdant Todra Valley and Gorge Today, you travel toward your final destination: the towering sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. The journey begins with a stop at the Todra Valley, a beautiful sight where you can take in the vibrant greens of the oasis contrasted against the red and orange hues of the surrounding desert. Nearby, you will explore the Todra Gorge, a breathtaking ravine cut by the Todra River with walls reaching 300 meters (984 feet). You can walk along the gorge to admire the unique geological features and natural beauty.

The Fossil Capital: Erfoud Next, head to Erfoud, a town famous for its annual date festival held every September. Erfoud is also renowned for its prehistoric sites and fossils dating back to the Late Cretaceous period (around 65-85 million years ago). These well-preserved fossils offer a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of ancient species and are a signature of the region's artisan industry.

Sahara Sunset & Desert Camping Finally, journey to Merzouga, the true gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore Erg Chebbi, home to the highest dunes in Morocco. Experience an exhilarating camel ride across the shifting sands to reach a traditional Berber camp. After watching a spectacular sunset from the top of the dunes, you will enjoy a traditional dinner and spend an unforgettable night under the vast desert stars.

Day 05 Sahara Desert - Khamlia Village - Rissani 

Sunrise and 4x4 Desert Exploration Try to get up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes before returning to the Berber camp for breakfast. Afterward, you will switch to a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle to explore the deeper reaches of the Saharan landscape and discover its hidden beauty.

Khamlia: The Soul of Gnaoua Head to the traditional Saharian village of Khamlia, famous for its inhabitants who originate from sub-Saharan Africa. Here, you will enjoy a performance of Gnaoua music, a spiritual and rhythmic tradition, and even have the chance to dance along with the locals.

Rissani and the Ancient Sijlmasa The journey continues to Rissani, a city with deep historical roots as a major caravan trading point for gold and silver as late as the 1900s. Just outside the modern city lie the ruins of Sijlmasa, once one of Morocco's most important ancient trading hubs.

The Traditional Market of Rissani Stop to visit the local market, a vibrant heart of commerce that opens every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Locals from the surrounding areas gather here to buy and sell dates, fruits, and various essential goods. Historically, the market has also served as a vital social meeting point where people exchange news and stories.

Afternoon: Adventure or Relaxation For your final afternoon in the desert, you have two choices:

  • Adventure: Rent Quad ATVs or buggies to test your driving skills across the vast sand dunes.
  • Relaxation: Return to your hotel to unwind and enjoy a peaceful afternoon by the pool.
Day 06 Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Ifrane - Fes

The Palm Groves of Ziz Valley Start early for the approximately eight-hour drive from Merzouga to Fes. Your first major stop is Aoufous, where you can admire the Ziz Valley. This vast oasis is home to thousands of palm trees and traditional Berber villages known as Ksars, built from a unique mud-straw mixture.

Crossing the High Atlas The journey continues through Errachidia and the impressive Ziz Gorges. You will pass through the Tunnel du Légionnaire, built by French colonial forces in 1928, before climbing the High Atlas Mountains. You'll cross the Tizi N'tlghmet pass at 1,900 meters (6,233 feet) before reaching Midelt, the "Apple City," for a well-deserved lunch break.

The Middle Atlas and the Cedar Forest After lunch, you head north across the Middle Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N'Zad Pass at 2,178 meters (7,146 feet). As the landscape shifts, you will enter the lush Cedar Forest of Azrou. Keep your camera ready, as you will stop to see families of Barbary apes (macaques) playing in the trees and along the roadside.

Little Switzerland and Arrival in Fes Before reaching your final destination, you will pass through Ifrane, often called "Little Switzerland." This town is famous for its alpine architecture, red-roofed houses, and snowy winters. Finally, after passing through the town of Imouzzar, you will arrive in the ancient imperial city of Fes late in the evening.

Day 07 Explore the city of Fes

Palaces and Panoramic Views Begin your tour at the Royal Palace, the former residence of the Alaouite Dynasty. Explore the grand gates and the nearby Mellah (Jewish quarter), walking along its unique narrow cobblestone streets. Afterward, visit the Merenid Tombs, an abandoned 14th-century necropolis perched on a hilltop. From here, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the entire city of Fes el Bali spread out below.

Artisanship and Iconic Gates Continue to Nejjarine Square, a hub for traditional craftsmen. Here, you can watch wood carvers and metalworkers at work and admire the beautiful Nejjarine Fountain, famous for its intricate mosaic tiles and carved woodwork. You will also visit Bab Boujeloud, the magnificent 18th-century "Blue Gate." Decorated with detailed zellij tilework, it serves as the main entrance to Talâa Kebira, the bustling primary street of the old medina.

The World's Oldest Library and Mosque Visit the Al-Qarawiyyin Library and Mosque, established in 859 CE. It is the oldest continuously operating library in the world and houses an estimated four thousand manuscripts, some dating back to the 9th century. This site remains one of the most important religious and cultural centers in the Islamic world.

The Ancient Chouara Tannery No visit to Fes is complete without seeing the Chouara Tannery, which dates back to the 11th century. Climb to the rooftop of a nearby leather shop to get the best view of the iconic stone pots filled with natural dyes. You will witness the traditional tanning process exactly as it has been done for centuries. It is the perfect place to appreciate the labor behind Morocco’s famous leather goods.

Return to Riad At the end of your tour, your guide will accompany you through the winding labyrinth of the medina back to your accommodation.

Day 08 Fes to Chefchaouen over the Rif Mountains

The Mystery of the Blue City Travel North toward the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen, crossing the scenic Rif Mountains. The city’s distinct color palette is believed to have been started by the Jewish community who settled here in the 15th century. They began painting the walls of their homes in unique shades of blue to ward off evil spirits. Today, the entire city is awash in these hues, creating an unforgettable and picturesque experience.

Exploring the Medina and Kasbah Chefchaouen is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning mountain backdrop. During your visit, you can:

Your exploration begins at the Oudaya Kasbah, a 12th-century fortress offering spectacular views over the Bou Regreg River. Originally a military base for the Almohad dynasty under Sultan Abdelmoumen and Yaakoub al-Mansour, it remains one of the city's most iconic sites.

Gardens and Unfinished Grandeur Take a moment to wander through the Andalusian Gardens, created in the 20th century during the French occupation; it is a peaceful retreat far from the city crowds. Your visit to Rabat concludes at the Hassan Tower, an ambitious 12th-century mosque project that was never completed. Today, the site features approximately 200 columns and a majestic red stone tower standing at 44 meters (145 feet).
