Welcome to Tangier, the gateway between Europe and Africa! Located near southern Spain, you can explore Tangier’s medina, relax at a café in Zoco Chico square, or take a stroll along the promenade.
Alternatively, travel directly to Chefchaouen, the blue-painted city nestled in the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen offers narrow winding streets and picturesque buildings. Visit Plaza Outa el Hammam for a meal while people-watching. Although non-Muslims cannot enter, the Grand Mosque is worth seeing from the outside. Explore the nearby kasbah, its garden, museum, and old prison cells.
Hike to Hotel Atlas rooftop for panoramic views of the city. For a longer walk, head east over the Ras el Ma Spring and climb to the abandoned Spanish Mosque to enjoy a sunset view over Chefchaouen.
After breakfast, continue to Fes, crossing the Rif Mountains. Upon arrival, begin exploring Fes, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the city retains its medieval charm.
Fes consists of two medinas: Fes el Bali, where you’ll spend most of your time, and Fes el Jdid, plus the early 20th century Ville Nouvelle. Your guide will help you navigate the maze-like streets. Admire Spanish and Tunisian influenced architecture as you pass souks selling spices, leather, and metalwork.
Visit the Chouara Tannery and climb to a nearby rooftop for the best view. Explore the 14th century Al-Attarine Madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyin University (founded in 859 CE), and the mellah, the old Jewish quarter in Fes el Jdid.
Head south over the Col du Zad pass (2,178 m), through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Spot Barbary macaques along the road. Stop for lunch in Midelt, the “apple city,” and enjoy views of the Moulouya River and surrounding orchards.
Continue over the Tizi n’Talgremt pass into the Ziz Valley, dotted with oases and ksars, traditional fortified houses built by merchants. Near Erfoud, see the first signs of the Sahara dunes. You might meet a nomadic Berber family and share tea. Visit Erfoud, famous for fossil rich rock, then proceed to Erg Chebbi dunes, covering 35 square kilometers with some dunes rising over 200 meters. Overnight in a desert hotel.
Wake early to witness the desert sunrise. Try sandboarding or join an optional ATV tour. Visit Khamlia Village to experience traditional music and dance, then explore Rissani, known for its livestock market.
Take a camel ride through the dunes, arriving at camp before sunset. Climb a nearby dune to watch the sunset, then enjoy dinner around the campfire with Berber music. Overnight in a luxury desert tent.
Depart in the morning, enjoying scenic stops across the desert plains, mountains, and plateaus. Arrive in Tinerhir and visit the Todra Gorge, a 300-meter-high canyon carved by the river. Walk along the gorge and relax in the shallow waters. Continue through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs to Aït Benhaddou. Stop in Kelaa M’Gouna to see rose fields and a rose-water production demonstration. Visit Ouarzazate, known for its film studios, including locations for “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Gladiator.”

Stop at the medieval Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO site along the former trans-Saharan trade route. Spend the night in the old town, wandering its alleys after the crowds leave. Cross the High Atlas Mountains, stopping at an Argan Oil Cooperative. Descend into Marrakech, observing dramatic landscape changes and river valleys. Explore Jemaa el-Fna square in the evening.
Marrakech, known as the Red City, is famous for its 1,000-year-old red sandstone walls. Begin a half-day guided tour of the souks: Souk el Attarin (spices), Souk Haddadine (blacksmiths), Souk Smata (slippers), and Souk des Teinturiers (dyers).
Visit Bahia Palace, covering 8,000 m², with its stunning mosaics, carved ceilings, and gardens. Explore the Saadian Tombs, a royal necropolis dating back to the 16th century. Admire the Koutoubia Mosque from the outside and stroll the adjacent park.
Visit the Majorelle Garden, created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1931, featuring exotic plants and vibrant Majorelle blue architecture. The Berber Museum, located in the garden, showcases over 600 artifacts representing Morocco’s diverse cultural heritage. Overnight in a riad.
